tasty treats in our last week of work this year

This week has been a bit rough, but there's always time for food. A lot of this week's food has been oven ready stuff like pizza, but sometimes's that's how it goes.

Yesterday we stopped at the local Mexican place, El Guaca for lunch. I had huevos rancheros, and my wife had mexican spring rolls. Their lunch plates are prettily presented.

(Both were delicious. We didn't get churros afterwards, but the churros there are very good too.)

In the evening, I made rabbit stew, using a rabbit from a local butcher plus red wine and root vegetables. I'd never eaten or cooked rabbit before, but the stew was flavorsome and the meat was quite tender and rich. I'd like to try rabbit in a restaurant at some point, I think, just to see how it should be cooked, but I think it was a successful meal anyway.

I neglected to take a photograph, but then stews and casseroles don't always look appetising in pictures anyway so perhaps that's for the best.

Today was a long tiring day and my wife was very drained by the end of it, so I went and bought her cake from Caffe Sala in Colchester. This is probably our favourite place for cakes in the whole of Colchester -- most of the cakes are vegan, lots of them are gluten free, and all of them are delicous and fluffy and moist.

This one is biscoff flavoured, which was new to me. If you've never had biscoff, it's a biscuit brand very like speculoos -- crunchy and caramelised, good dunked in tea or coffee. You can also buy biscoff spread which is amazing on toast. This cake definitely tasted of biscoff!

I also bought a slice of carrot cake, which may or not be eaten today. It might be a two cake day. We'll see how it goes.

(Dinner plan for tonight is braised belly pork on rice, using a cooking with dog recipe.)
